4 days & i'm off!

It's nearly 1am and I'm stubbornly refusing to sleep, apparently preferring to peruse aimlessly about the Internet than snuggle up in my bed. The same bed, mind you, that I will be sleeping in only FIVE more times until I am in South America!

The packing is coming along okay. I managed to spend $160 at Walmart, essentially emptying their pharmacy section and spurring curious comments from the people in line at the cash register afterwards. I've said goodbye to so many people in the past few days, not helped by the fact that I went home to Canada for Christmas. It's been tough in that respect but in all other ways, I'm just trying to get everything together and the looming adventure really has not sunk in yet. The closest I got to getting really excited was when I heard back from my host family - my host mom sounds so sweet and so I can't wait to meet her, her husband, and her two kids.

Biggest dilemma right now? How to fit my life into a suitcase and live out of it for five months. Best solution I've found so far? Vacuum-sealed bags ;) (thanks Maegan!)

As far as logistics go, I'm leaving on the 4th of January at 1pm and should be arriving at 10pm. My host family will be picking me up at the airport and I guess that's when the fun begins! My connection is in Miami and from there about 6 other UNC students should be on the flight. Good to know we won't be alone as we hop borders.

I'm going to set up the sidebar of this blog with links to the blogs of my friends & fellow travelers... in just a few days we'll be spanning the globe! I've got friends headed to London, Peru, Singapore, Japan, France, Spain, Argentina, Austria, Germany.... what an unbelievable age we live in, where we are afforded these amazing opportunities!

I know I've got so much to be thankful for :)

So anyway, that's it for tonight. In less than 24 hours we'll be celebrating the beginning of a brand new year! ¡Feliz año nuevo!
